Questions to Ask Your Florist/Designer
Most couples begin florist meetings by talking about colors, flower varieties, and inspiration photos. Those conversations are exciting, but they’re only half of the conversation.
After years of planning weddings, we've learned that a floral proposal isn't simply a design document, it's also a logistics plan. The questions you ask before signing a contract often determine how smoothly your wedding day unfolds.

Great Florists Think Beyond Flowers
Beautiful floral design is expected. Great floral partners also think about timing, installation, transportation, venue logistics, weather, rentals, and contingency plans. That's why some of the most valuable questions have very little to do with flowers themselves.
For example:
Who is responsible for moving ceremony arrangements to the reception?
How long will installation take?
What happens if a particular bloom isn't available?
Based on our budget and season, which flowers would you recommend to achieve the look we want?
Will someone remain onsite during the room flip?
Do we need to give the full amount of guest tables, or have less tables in the proposal and add more when we get our final guest count?
Do you participate in a final walkthrough or site visit?
Do you have a minimum spend?
What is the fee for a sample arrangement?
Do you need to come back at the end of the night to pick up any rented items?
What vessels do you already own that might match our design elements?
These operational details rarely appear in inspiration galleries, but they can significantly influence the success of the event.
Ask About Their Process, Not Just Their Portfolio
One of our favorite questions to ask a florist is surprisingly simple:
"Walk us through what a typical wedding day and the overall planning process with you looks like."
The answer often reveals far more than a design presentation ever could. Experienced floral teams speak confidently about setup windows, venue coordination, rental inventory, transportation, cleanup, and communication with other vendors.

That's exactly the kind of partner you want on your wedding day. Your florist collaborates with your planner, venue, rental company, photographer, entertainment team, and caterer throughout the day. When those relationships are strong, transitions become smoother, timelines stay on track, and everyone can focus on creating a great guest experience.
Flowers Are Part of a Much Bigger Story
Your floral design absolutely shapes the atmosphere of your celebration. But what guests remember is how the day felt. Thoughtful florals help create that feeling—but they're most successful when they're supported by strong planning, clear communication, and a collaborative vendor team.
When interviewing florists, don't just ask whether they can recreate an inspiration photo, ask how they'll help bring your entire event to life.
Things that couples can do to prep when sending requests to Florists:
-Prepare a mood board, including color elements and the venue(s) where you are getting married and getting ready if you need delivery there.
-Include an itemized list of the various elements you’ll need (with amounts), such as ceremony flowers, the number of family and wedding party flowers, guest table arrangements (round or rectangular?), and other items that are important to you.
-Have a sense of your budget so they’re able to help you achieve your goals.
